Rural Tourism - Fiestas

When doing rural tourism one thing we always have to do is party with the locals. Of course this is good clean fun and dealing with student travel trips and family vacations we never go too late but believe me these are some of the best parties you will attend.

Usually the way it works is that we stay in the village for two nights and on the second night we have the party. The party is started by two local guys doing the Marimba which is a upbeat sound that gets the party going. As we parade everyone in with clapping and women and children dressed in the traditional dress we listen to a few songs from the marimba. After this the presentations begin. We have a group of children who do the “baile tipico” which is the traditional Costa Rican dance. After they do their show we have another group of kids do a dance on Ecology and protecting the environment. To finish the performances which all together take about 35 minutes we have two young boys who are masters with the cowboy rope. They swing it around and twirl it and hop through loops as the crowd goes crazy.

With parties, weddings, or social events in Costa Rica, when the music starts you are up and dancing. In the US we are a bit more reserved and even the kids sometimes it is hard to get them up. Here in the village we have everyone dancing within the first couple minutes of the song. If you don’t speak Spanish then this is the best way to communicate for a couple of minutes doing some steps, spins, and smiles is all you need to have a successful conversation. So from the performances it turns into an all out salsa and meringue dance fest and if you don’t know how then we teach you.

How could I forget during all this , an all- you- can- eat buffet of some of the best rice and beans, with chicken is served. We also include a dessert and a number of other side dishes to try all made in the village. A party in the village is a party like no other and the locals enjoy having the visitors to share time with.
