Rural Tourism - Community Service

We have a number of community service projects that we do. Our main goal is to try and do a project that can only grow and develop. If we paint a school one day the paint will fall off. This is also labor that we can give to a local family. We like to bring ideas to the rural areas of ways they can improve their way of living.

Just to give you an idea, one project that we have in process right now is a recycle project that we plan on developing into a larger project. We have built 12 recycle bins in 6 different schools in the rural towns of Turrialba. Our different student groups this year built these recycle bins (Not much labor involved simple projects just delivering and explaining, few nails, and paint).

Our idea now is to have a program that is ongoing. We plan on visiting the schools and teaching the kids about recycling along with the teachers. We have a competition among the different schools of which one can collect the most recycled products. Our idea is to offer prizes such as a pizza party or a new chalk-board for the schools that win. We will compete on a monthly time frame stopping by the schools once a month to collect the recycled goods and take them to Juan Vinas which is an area where we can drop off the recycled goods.

This is a project that we feel can grow and have an incredible impact on the future of this rural area. It is a place of natural beauty and many rivers. Keeping this area clean is important for its economic future. If the rivers fill with trash you will not see as many tourists. By teaching the next generation about the need to recycle and not litter, we feel we are doing something positive and long lasting for the community.

It is the little things that will make a big difference on our eco-systems and society as a whole. Our company respects the three R’s of recycling which are Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle but we have added a fourth which is Reject. What we mean by reject is to not take things if you don’t need them and we all know we have plenty of things we do not need.

Testimonials

"Loved giving back to the local communities. It was amazing to walk into the rural areas and feel so welcomed. The zipline and rafting are amazing but bringing us to hang with the locals tops it all. "
