Arenal National Park

The Arenal National Park has to be one of the most unique places you can find in Costa Rica. Some would say it is like visiting a different planet or walking on the moon. You start out by walking up the trails then to literally being on the side of the volcano watching boulders roll down the side. It is here that you stand, take pictures, listen and learn about the erupting giant that looks and feels like t is about to blow you into the next millennium. The place where you are standing is the former lava flow and boulders that have erupted out of the volcano to form the viewing area that is now the Arenal Volcano National Park.

When visiting the park you can expect to do some hiking and even maybe have some rain. The hiking is not too intense until you get to the lava flow where the rock boulders are. It is here that you might need to use a walking stick or a hand or two to do some climbing. If it is a full blown rainstorm upon arrival then you might want to plan the hike for another day because the chance to see the volcano is one of the best parts of the adventure. However, it it is raining hard then you’ll just have to use your imagination.

We as a company feel it is important to visit national parks when we can because each entrance to a national park just makes the park system a little bit better, thus it can be looked at like a donation to protecting the environment of Costa Rica. The entrance fee to National Parks is $10 and with over 1 million tourist a year it can go quite a way if all tourists visited a few national parks.
